This collection is arranged into two series alphabetically, based on the information of specific buildings and multiple buildings. The first series consists of specific information on each buildings including correspondence, architectural information, events, photos and items. The second series contains generalized information on multiple buildings that includes reports, financial statements, photos, and descriptions about Illinois State as a whole.

The Illinois State University Buildings collection consists of correspondence, financial statements, architectural works, reports, and newspapers and flyers about the development of Illinois State. The collection also contains thumbnails and blueprints of the buildings and exchanges with architects responsible for developing ISU.

Illinois State University

Illinois State University was founded in 1857 as Illinois State Normal University. It is the first public university in the state. It started out with the buildings Old Main and Major's Hall. As the university progressed, the buildings included the residential halls that would become Fell Hall. Some of the biggest developments of Illinois State began in the 1950s and 60s. This included the New Student Union (would be named the Bone Student Center in 70s) and the residential halls Watterson Towers, Hewitt and Manchester, Old Cardinal Court and the recently torn down South Campus (Akin- Colby and Hamilton- Whiten). Several of these developments were made to have the University became more accessible to students, to have their learning experience become more enjoyable. The most recent developments were the Fell Arboretum, the quad, the State Farm Hall of Business and McCormick Hall.
