The Karl Eigsti Collection of Theatre Design is arranged into two series by material type. The first series contains original works created by Eigsti as well as photographs of some of his shows. The second series contains show posters collected by Eigsti.

The Karl Eigsti Collection of Theatre Design contains original artwork created by American theatre scenic designer Karl Eigsti. Other materials include photographs of productions featuring his designs as well as a series of show posters collected by Eigsti.

Eigsti, Karl

Karl Eigsti was born September 19, 1938 in Goshen, Indiana.  He later attended University High School and worked with ISNU Director of Dramatics and founder of Children’s Theatre in Normal, Mabel Clare Allen. Eigsti earned his B.A. from American University and his M.A. at the University of Bristol and would go on to establish himself as a major figure in American theatre scenic design.  Eigsti has designed well over one hundred stage productions, including twenty Broadway shows and has designed for most of the major resident theatres in the United States. Designing for over four decades, Eigsti has received several awards for his work including a Fullbright Fellowship at the Bristol Old Vic, the Los Angeles Dramalogue Critics Award, the Joseph Maharam Award, the Helen Hayes Award, and was nominated for a Tony Award for his work on the 1978 production of Knockout.  Eigsti is a professor emeritus of theatre arts at Brandis University and currently resides in New York City.
