Collection Historical Note

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era was created in 1989 to study the time period between the end of the Civil War and the end of World War I.  In 2001, the society announced a quarterly journal that would begin in January 2002.  The Journal for the Gilded Age and Progressive Era is the preeminate journal on this time period.  The journal publishes original research and book reviews for the period of 1865-1920.  The journal accepts essays on a variety of topics dealing with the age and often plans a special issue or forum on a specific topic such as The Suffrage Centennial.  Submissions are evaluated by the editor and either rejected or passed along for peer review and revision.  Today, the print issue of the journal is published by the Cambridge University Press.  Both the society and journal continue promoting scholarly work of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era.
