Arrangement: The Illinois State University Founders Day Collection is arranged in twelve series chronologically by decade.  Within each series, the materials are arranged by the event's planning stage.  The collection contains planning documents, invitations, programs, budget documents, photographs, memorabilia, and multi-media.  *Please note that there are no materials for the 1970's nor are there materials for every year within a decade.*

Abstract

This collection contains materials about the annual Founders Day celebration at Illinois State University.  Items include planning documents, invitations, programs, memos, e-mails, articles and multimedia that describes the history of the yearly Founders Day celebration.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

Series I: 1900-1909 contains articles about the first Founders Day celebration in 1909 as well as information about the banquet.  There are only materials for the year 1909.

Series II: 1900-1919 holds invitations, programs, articles, and other information about the banquets held for Founders Day.  There are only materials for the years 1910-1916.

Series III: 1920-1929 comprises invitations, articles, and memorabilia from the Founders Day celebrations in those years.  There are only materials for the years 1921, 1924, and 1926.

Series IV: 1930-1939 includes articles and programs about the celebrations.  There are only materials for the years 1932 and 1937.

Series V: 1940-1949 consists of Founders Day banquet programs.  There are only materials for the years 1946-1949.

Series VI: 1950-1959 contains planning documents, invitations, correspondence, programs, and articles concerning the celebrations held for Founders Day.  There are only materials for the years 1952-1959.

Series VII: 1960-1969 comprises planning documents, invitations, programs, tickets, news releases, articles, photographs, and other information concerning the Founders Day celebrations for that decade.

Series VIII: 1980-1989 holds menus for the Founders Day dinner.  There are only materials for the year 1982.

Series IX: 1990-1999 consists of planning documents, invitations, programs, correspondence, invoices, handouts, and other information concerning the reestablished Founders Day celebrations.  There are only materials for the years 1994-1999.

Series X: 2000-2009 includes planning documents, invitations, programs, articles, news releases, correspondence, and other information concerning the Founders Day celebrations of that decade.

Series XI: 2010-2019 has information on the bell ringing ceremony held during Founders Day in 2010.  There are only materials for the year 2010.

Series XII: Miscellaneous comprises programs, correspondences, photographs, and other materials from Founders Day celebrations for years that could not be identified.

Access Restrictions: The entire collection is open for research.

Use Restrictions: Materials held within the Dr. JoAnn Rayfield Archives are protected by copyright. Permission to publish, quote or reproduce must be secured from the repository and the copyright holder.

Acquisition Method: Most materials in this collection were held by Milner Library until they were transferred to the newly created University Archives in the 1970's.  Some materials have since been added by the University Archives staff.
