Historical Note: Samuel Garman was a naturalist/ Zoologist born in Pennsylvania. He joined John Wesley Powell on an expedition to the American West in 1868. He graduated from ISNU in 1870. He became the assistant director of herpetology and ichthyology at Harvard's Museum of Comparative Zoology.
